Illustration Grant Awarded

Even though I’ve focused mostly on UI/UX design in recent years, illustration is still an important part of who I am as a designer. I’ve worked as an illustrator for several years, and I always enjoy taking part in projects that feel meaningful and personally interesting.

At the beginning of this year, I was happy and honored when Iida Pitkänen contacted me about illustrating her upcoming book. Iida is a nonfiction writer and project coordinator based in Kuopio, Finland. She teaches Finnish language and literature, works with second-language learners, and trains others on how to use AI technology in education. She also shares learning materials about AI openly online.

The topic of the book is not public yet, so I can’t share much, but I can say this: when a project combines technology, creativity, and visual design, I’m definitely interested.

And just recently, I received some wonderful news: the Finnish Illustration Association (Kuvittajat ry) has awarded a grant for my illustration work on this book. I’m really grateful for the support and excited to keep working on this inspiring project. This year, Kuvittajat ry awarded a total of €135,000 in project grants. Out of 185 applications, only 31 projects received funding, which is just 16.7% of applicants. Book-related applications were especially popular, which made it even more challenging to stand out. I feel truly honored and super happy that this project was chosen.

More to come soon!
